Because preschoolers (typically 3-4 years old) are more adventuresome and curious about their surroundings, our teachers stay one step ahead of their students. Each day is thoroughly planned out with a variety of hands-on activities to encourage learning and socialization. Students will be taught to write their names and recognize letters, numbers, colors and shapes. Our teachers also begin to introduce concepts like opposites, identify emotions and basic directional skills (over/under etc.). At this time we put extra focus on self- awareness for each child. We also foster independence by helping children master self-help skills.

On a bi-annual basis, we do a formal evaluation based off age-appropriate benchmarks in order to assess each child’s growth and development. Below are some of the basic milestones we work towards for a child entering the preschool classroom, in addition to specific academic and developmental achievements:


  • Hops and stands on one foot up to 5 seconds
  • Kicks ball forward
  • Throws ball overhand
  • Moves forward and backward
  • Uses riding toys


  • Cooperates/plays with other children
  • Plays “mom” or “dad”
  • More inventive in fantasy play
  • More independent

Hand and Finger Skills

  • Copies square shapes
  • Draws a person with 2 to 4 body parts
  • Uses scissors
  • Draws circles and squares
  • Begins to copy some capital letters
  • Can feed self with spoon


  • Understands the concepts of “same” and “different”
  • Has mastered some basic rules of grammar
  • Speaks in sentences of 5 to 6 words
  • Speaks clearly enough for strangers to understand
  • Tells stories


  • Correctly names some colors
  • Understands the concept of counting and may know a few numbers
  • Begins to have a clearer sense of time
  • Follows three-part commands
  • Recalls parts of a story
